New Dingley Home for Hawks

4 01

Changes to plans for Hawthorn Football Club’s new Dingley home, designed by Peddle Thorp, are currently being reviewed by Kingston Council for planning approval.

The vision for the project has expanded significantly in the past few years, with initial estimates for the 28-hectare site, which borders Old Dandenong and Tootal Roads, which is now expected to cost $100 million.

The proposal includes;

  • Two full size ovals (1 the size of the MCG the other is Marvel Stadium);
  • multi-purpose training area with a potential running track and soccer field;
  • two additional ovals – one for training and community use;
  • pavilion with tiered seating, change rooms, medical rooms, storage, offices and function centre (accommodating no more than 150 patrons); and
  • café, retail shop, museum, community education and leadership centre.

The Hawks' base will be named the Kennedy Community Centre, in honour of Hawthorn triple premiership coach and former captain John Kennedy snr.

Councillors voted at their August meeting to submit amendments to Hawthorn Football Club’s Dingley plans to the State Planning Minister. Those amendments will then be exhibited, and a further report will be received by council after the close of that exhibition.

The changes include additional function centres and an outdoor recreation complex, an indoor recreation building, a medical centre, and advertising signage.

The Hawks had their Dingley Village home ticked off by Kingston Council and purchased the 28 hectare site in 2016.
